Field Director: Sabine Kröger (Laval University)
This field of research analyzes the role that the State plays in managing the economy. It is composed of two components. From the normative viewpoint, the objective is to assess the costs and benefits of the different public policies as to their effectiveness and fairness. From the positive viewpoint, it is a matter of understanding the machinery and effects of the political system: parties, electorates, lobbying, electoral systems...
There are numerous and important areas of application: fight against poverty and unemployment; risk management; distribution of public goods; the environment, etc.
